Belvoir Park Golf Course

“The Wentworth of Ireland”

Belvoir Park Golf Club was established in South Belfast during 1927, and set in some 163 acres of delightful parkland, once the childhood home of the Duke of Wellington. The course was designed by the famed course architect Harry S. Colt who also designed world famous golf courses such as Pine Valley, Royal County Down, Royal Dublin, Royal Portrush, Royal Lytham & St Ann, Castle Golf Club, and Wentworth. Some of the holes at Belvoir echo Pine Valley and Wentworth, and indeed Belvoir was once dubbed “the Wentworth of Ireland” by none other than world-famous golfer Christy O’Connor Senior. Belvoir is proud to be twinned with two Harry Colt Courses: Castle GC, Dublin; and San Cugat GC, Barcelona. Across its 92 years, as well as producing a fabulous test of golf, Belvoir has been recognized for the warm and friendly Golf Club environment it provides for men, ladies, seniors and juniors.

Belvoir Park Golf Club has been given the accolade of “The Best Parkland Course in Ulster” and remains one of the premier parkland courses in the whole of Ireland. Belvoir hosted the Ulster Professional Championship in 1930, won by Joe McCartney; the Irish Open in 1949, won by Harry Bradshaw by one shot over the South African favourite Bobby Locke; and the Irish Open in 1953 won by Scotsman Eric Brown. 1949 Irish Open winner Harry Bradshaw stated afterwards that “Belvoir was the best inland course I have ever played”.

Belvoir has also hosted the Irish PGA Championship in 1995; the Irish Amateur Close Championship in 2008; the World Blind Golf Championships in 2008; the Senior Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship in 2011; the World Police and Fire Games in 2013; the Senior Ladies’ Irish Open Amateur Championship in 2017; the Irish Boys Open Amateur Championship in 2018; and the Irish Seniors Open Amateur Championship in 2019

Belvoir Park Golf Club also hosts an annual Pro-Am, sponsored by Coca-Cola, which in 2019 will be the premier event in Ulster, and one of the major events in the whole of Ireland, with a professionals’ first prize of €12,000.

In 2017 Belvoir hosted its inaugural annual Charity Day – a great success raising £20,000 on the day in support of a number of local charities. 2018 saw a similar amount being raised too. Belvoir Members are rightly proud of being at the heart of their community.

In 2018 Belvoir Park Golf Club held its inaugural Annual Open Scratch Competition, and has set its sights on this being the premier event of its type in Ulster.
